Asbestos- How Can It be Dangerous to People?

Nowadays, a lot of people are becoming more aware of the bad effects of asbestos especially those who has a construction-based experience.

But, although there are many who are aware of this, not all have the real knowledge why. If you are one of those people who are not really sure what makes it dangerous, then you have to learn more about asbestos.

In this article, you will learn the reason why you should stay away from asbestos. With this information, you can even protect your loved ones.

Let us first learn what asbestos is.

Asbestos is made from minerals. When it comes to its texture, it is somewhat fluffy. With its natural properties, people in the 1990s are using this as a good insulation material.

When construction companies have heard of it, they used the material in the different projects they had. Companies had made huge profits by using the material.

Not only that, they have found out that other materials like concrete, paper and plastic can turn out to be stronger once mixed with asbestos. Doing this allows them to have stronger, better and more effective material.

Although this has several types and in different strands, they all share common uses and effects. In US, the law recognize six types of them.

Now, what makes asbestos dangerous? If you are going to look at its natural and solid state, there is nothing that makes it dangerous but its fibers which are tiny and invisible. As these fibers travel though air, they cannot be tasted, touched and smelled. So, as they can travel easily through air, a person may inhale it without even realizing it.

Actually you may not notice the side effects right then and there as you inhaled the fibers because it will take 40-50 years for it to take effect. This means that even if you stay away from this material for 20 years or more, time will come that the danger will come.

With the dangers it can give to your health, it is very important that you hire professional services to remove asbestos contamination in your building.

Once the tiny fibers reach your lungs, then it will slowly build up there and cause harm to your body. As they accumulate, they can start to block some parts of your lungs and airways. A person affected can feel difficulty in breathing.

Other conditions that are caused by asbestos include chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, asbestosis, and pleuritis.

You have now a clear understanding on what asbestos can do you to your health. So, make sure to stay away from it as much as possible.
