How Frequent One Should Color Their Hair

Summer is fast approaching, many people are looking to try a new hair color.

Whether you want to go lighter, lighter or something more fun such as fluorescent hair colors, regardless, dyeing your hair a different color is a quirky and fun way of expressing your individual style and personality.

But style should never be something that comes before the health of your hair. Different colors and styles are amazing and fun, but so is having a beautiful and healthy head of natural hair.

So the age old question still remains, how frequent should you dye your hair?

The short answer to that question is that “It depends.”.

The dangers of dyeing your hair too much

You might be the type of person who loves experimenting with their style, and you might love having a new hair color every single week.

Note that it’s not healthy for your hair if you color it too frequently in short intervals, this is even more risky if you are using permanent hair dyes. Permanent hair dyes are a kind of dyes that bleach hair, these kinds of dyes contain chemicals such as ammonia and peroxide. These ingredients might have a scary vibe to them but when they are used in moderation, they are absolutely safe.

But if used too much, you hair will become dry and brittle leading to hair fall and breakage. Frequent use of hair dyes won’t have any impact on your hair growth, although your hair might be growing fine as usual but you will notice the frequent occurrence of split ends if you overuse dyes.

No two hair types are exactly the same, thus different dyes will react differently on different hair types. One dye might work fine for one and spell disaster for somebody else.

How often should one color their hair?

You have no real need to dye your hair often, what is recommended is that you color once every four to six weeks. There is a six to eight week lifespan in the case of permanent hair color.

So how long should you have to wait so that you can dye your hair again? Seeing that your hair does not grow at a dramatic rate and that your roots aren’t really that visible, the perfect time for re-coloring your hair is about 8 weeks after your last dye.

But if your hair grows quite faster than normal, then 4 weeks until your next tough up is perfectly fine. Just don’t forget to keep your hair properly moisturized and conditioned before your next coloring. A hair that is perfectly moisturized and nourished will be able to withstand the damages brought upon by the dyes.

Semi-permanent hair colors are a different lot. They fade much faster and are gentler on your hair as they do not contain peroxide or ammonia. They will usually go away after just six to twelve washes.

You can compare the different effects of demi-permanent, semi-permanent, and permanent hair colors and check out which works best for you.
